Happy 2011!

It's been hard for me to drum up enthusiasm for this new year holiday and the day feels much like any other. Our Christmas was lovely; full and busy without being overwhelming, with plenty of time for family and friends. The tree went up, the cards went out, the shopping was done early, and since we were away for Christmas I didn't have to cook a turkey. All good.

As for 2011, the most exciting thing it has going for it is that it isn't 2010, which was a tough year for far too many. We let it go with few regrets. But really, I'm waiting for 2012, which promises at least to be highly entertaining. Will an asteroid strike? Will aliens invade? Will the Mayans return? Or will our collective consciousness suddenly rise to new heights? Whatever happens or doesn't, there are lots of folks out there ready to believe the worst and the hype is just beginning:

"The mayor of a picturesque French village has threatened to call in the army to seal it off from a tide of New Age fanatics and UFO watchers, who are convinced it is the only place on Earth to be spared Armageddon in 2012 ... in the past few months, the quiet village has been inundated by groups of esoteric outsiders who believe the peak is an "alien garage." According to them, extraterrestrials are quietly waiting in a massive cavity beneath the rock for the world to end, at which point they will leave, taking, it is hoped, a lucky few humans with them ..."

I can hardly wait. In the meantime, I've promised myself I'm going to finish the next book, so wish me luck. What are your plans for 2011?
